Roly Poly bugs are the cutest, easiest pets!!!
Well, technically those little “bugs” that roll into little protective balls when you scare them are not insects or bugs; they’re actually land-dwelling crustaceans! Cool, right? They even breathe through gills, which is why you find them in damp places like under logs and rocks.
Anyway, I have a cute little desktop cage full of roly polies, and they just had babies! Lemme tell you, baby pillbugs are adorable. They’re cute and white and small and they love to eat. A LOT. I’ve also decided pillbugs are the flat-out easiest pets anyone could ever have: just lightly mist their cage once a day and feed them a variety of rotting wood, leaves, or fresh fruits and veggies!
Oh, and you can also care for sowbugs the same way. (Sowbugs look almost exactly like roly poly pillbugs, but there are a few differences, such as sowbugs not being able to roll into a ball.)
Because sowbugs are so easy to breed and they have so many different genes that control their color, people have been able to breed some pretty crazy colorations of sowbug!
